A Trillion — also called a Trilliant — is a triangular brilliant-cut diamond with rounded corners and multi-facet faceting built for maximum fire, distinct from the flat step-cut Triangle shape. Guru Diam stocks 981 Trillion diamonds on hand, the highest-volume side-stone shape in our current inventory, used as both statement center stones and side stones, IGI-certified.

What is a trillion cut diamond?

A trillion is a triangular diamond with a brilliant faceting pattern — many small, angled facets radiating from the culet, the same faceting family as a round brilliant, just mapped onto a three-cornered outline. The corners are rounded rather than cut to sharp points, which does two things: it softens the silhouette compared to a step-cut triangle, and it protects the most vulnerable part of the stone from chipping in everyday wear.

That brilliant faceting is what separates a trillion from the flat step-cut Triangle shape covered in our Triangle guide — same three-sided outline, completely different light performance. A trillion throws real fire and scintillation; a step-cut triangle stays quiet and geometric. Because of that fire, trillions work in both roles a step-cut triangle can’t: as a standalone center stone in a statement ring, and as a side stone flanking a round, cushion, or emerald center where you want the accents to actively sparkle rather than just frame.

Trillion vs. Triangle — brilliant vs. step cut

Spec Trillion / Trilliant (brilliant-cut) Triangle (step-cut)
Faceting Multi-facet brilliant Flat step-cut planes
Corners Rounded Sharp, defined points
Light behavior High fire and scintillation Quiet, geometric flash
Typical role Center stone or side stone Side/accent stone only
Best for Statement rings, sparkle-forward side stones Understated three-stone accents

If a design needs the side stones to hold their own next to a brilliant center, or the center stone itself needs to be a triangular shape with real fire, trillion is the correct call. If the goal is a calm, uniform frame that won’t compete with the center diamond, use the step-cut triangle instead.

Why trillion is our highest-volume side-stone shape

At 981 pieces on hand, trillion is the deepest-stocked side-stone shape in Guru Diam’s current inventory — ahead of every other calibrated fancy shape we carry. That depth matters for two different kinds of orders. A center-stone request for a single, well-cut trillion in a specific size and color has more of the size/color range to choose from. A side-stone request for a matched pair or a larger set has enough volume behind it that a true match — consistent size, angle, and tone — is a normal pull rather than a special search.

Certification and what to check

Guru Diam’s trillion inventory is CVD-grown and IGI-certified, with GIA certification available on request. Because the shape is faceted for fire rather than flat geometry, a few checks matter more here than on a step-cut equivalent:

  • Corner rounding. Confirm the degree of corner rounding matches the design intent — more rounded reads softer and safer for everyday wear, sharper points read more dramatic but chip more easily.
  • Facet symmetry. Brilliant faceting on a triangular outline is harder to cut symmetrically than on a round; check symmetry grading, especially for a center-stone purchase.
  • Matching for side-stone sets. If sourcing a pair or set, confirm size, angle, and color/tone are matched across every stone, not just graded individually.

Sourcing trillion diamonds wholesale

Guru Diam carries trillion as IGI-certified CVD lab-grown inventory from our New York Diamond District desk and Los Angeles office, with real-time online inventory for trade accounts. In-stock pieces ship same-day from New York; a custom size, color, or matched set outside current stock moves through CAD to a finished piece in 4–6 days.

FAQ

What is a trillion cut diamond? A trillion, or trilliant, is a triangular diamond with rounded corners and brilliant (multi-facet) faceting built for maximum fire. It’s distinct from a step-cut triangle, which has sharp points and flat, quiet facets.

Can a trillion diamond be used as a center stone, or only a side stone? Both. Trillion’s brilliant faceting gives it enough fire to stand alone as a center stone in a statement ring, and it’s also widely used as a side stone flanking a round, cushion, or emerald center.

What’s the difference between a trillion and a triangle cut diamond? A trillion is brilliant-faceted with rounded corners, built for fire and usable as a center or side stone. A triangle is step-cut with flat facets and sharp points, used almost exclusively as a side-stone accent.

Why does Guru Diam stock so many trillion diamonds? Trillion is the highest-volume side-stone shape in our current inventory at 981 pieces on hand. That depth supports both single center-stone selections across a wide size/color range and true matched pairs or sets for side-stone orders.

Are trillion diamonds certified? Guru Diam’s trillion inventory is CVD-grown and IGI-certified as standard, with GIA certification available on request for individual stones.
