Why fancy color pairs are harder to match than colorless pairs
A colorless matched pair only has to agree on one thing: outline and size. A fancy color pair has to agree on two things at once — outline and color — and color is the harder of the two to control. Two "Fancy Yellow" stones can carry noticeably different warmth; two "Fancy Pink" stones can lean noticeably more purple or more orange.
